With the dawn of the 21st century, it is the goal of the Cabot School Music Program to provide both innovative and accessible musical opportunities to all of our students. As educators we have a responsibility to offer opportunities that will allow all of our students the chance to succeed, express themselves and find a niche within our school. The Center for Global and Creative Music Studies is the fruition of this commitment.

It is the goal of the program to educate our students to be contributing members of this new century in which seamless practices of east-meets-west and old-meets-new are constantly emerging.

While many students find success and enrichment through the western performing arts, a significant population of students choose not to participate. Recognizing this paradigm, Cabot's performing arts strategy is to continue to offer high quality traditional western arts education while offering alternative arts opportunities such as Electronic Music and World Music.

The hands on approach of studying another country’s music provides the perfect doorway into learning more about the culture itself. Activities such as hand drumming and Javanese Gamelan appeal to students who may not otherwise have pursued a traditional band instrument, thus involving a higher number of Cabot students in music. The musical traditions of the Caribbean, Africa and Indonesia can provide the perfect environment for differentiated instruction, as students of all abilities are able to find a niche in the expression provided by these multi-faceted group oriented ensembles.

Through the integrated study of traditional and modern approaches to the performing arts, students will be able to develop their skills while also having a hand in the creation of the world's ever-evolving artistic expression.

This curricular renaissance is designed to educate our students to be creative, thoughtful individuals while sparking their cognitive abilities in an environment that allows the students to take ownership of their work. Thus giving voice to each child’s unique expression.

Additionally, as we create a stronger elementary music and performing arts program, we are feeding the future of the arts and overall academic achievement and emotional and social well being of our students. Through a solid high-arts environment, our students will grow into confident and expressive young adults prepared to give back to the local community and world.
