CABOT SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
MINUTES
Monday, January 11, 2010
Present: School Board: Chris Tormey, Roman Kokodyniak, Ann Cookson and Niall McCallum. Administration: Regina Quinn and George Burlison. Absent: Dore Grier and Lyndsay Christman. Late: Linda Gabrielson
1. The meeting was called to order at 7:34pm.
2. Public Comment:
a. There were many faculty and community members present to continue discussions about the FY11 budget. Concerns were expressed regarding on-going tax rate increases as well as issues regarding the extent of personnel cuts and the impact they might have on programs and services. Discussion also followed regarding re-structuring of instructional services and strategies for doing so.
3. Student Report: none.
4. Principal’s Report: none.
5. Superintendent’s Report: none.
6. Board Discussion:
a. FY11 Budget: George presented a tax impact sheet with a 0% tax rate increase.
7. The board went into executive session at 10:05pm to discuss a personnel matter.
8. Executive session was concluded at 10:53pm.
9. Board Action:
a. The board agreed to present a FY11 budget of $3,321,315, which means an education spending of $2,584,332 and a 0% tax rate increase, at the annual meeting. They directed Regina and George to find $50,000 to cut from the budget in order to add some program and personnel expenses back in. Voted 5-0.
b. The board approved the announced tuition rates of: Kindergarten and Grades 1-6 at $12,500.00 and Grade 7-12 at $13,500.00. Voted 5-0.
c. The board decided to meet again on January 18, 2010 at 6pm to review the proposed changes in the FY11 budget that Regina and George have been directed to find.
10. The meeting was adjourned at 11:15pm
