Cabot School Awarded Fresh Fruits & Vegetables Grant

The funding will provide two fresh fruit and vegetable snacks every week to the entire elementary population next year.  The produce can be purchased locally, as well as from exotic places.  The only stipulation is that it be fresh, not frozen or processed in any way.  The goal is to increase student awareness and consumption of fresh produce.  Faculty will be supported in providing education about the produce, encouraged by the fact that it will need to be offered in addition to any snack/breakfast program that is already in place.  There is some funding in the grant to hire staff to prepare the foods, but we will also be seeking volunteers to assist.  Students who are available on a regular basis (Tuesday and Thursday mornings) could earn community service or other credit, in exchange for learning food preparation skills.  Interested students or support people can contact the Farm to School coordinator or the Food Service Director for more information.

SCHOOL BOARD WELCOMES NEW PRINCIPAL

     The Cabot School Board is pleased to announce the hiring of Karen Stewart as our new principal.

     Following a diligent process involving multiple interviews, public and staff forums, and a full day on campus, Karen Stewert accepted an offer of a three-year contract to lead the Cabot School as our new principal.  Karen has many years of experience leading small rural schools, including formative principal positions in Monroe, NH and Barnet, VT.  Throughout her hiring process, Karen displayed confidence and a strong desire to work collaboratively with students, staff and the community.  She also showed a firm understanding of the challenges that face Cabot School as we work to educate all of our children in a time of diminishing resources.

     We would like to thank all who participated in the hiring process -- the search committee, the Cabot school faculty & staff, and community members.  Your time and voices were invaluable.  We will all play a role in Karen's success moving forward and we look forward to her getting started on July 1st.
